A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based multi-wavelength ring laser is exper
imentally investigated in this paper. The lasing wavelengths can be dy
namically selected by using a 1 x N optical switch. Micro-bender betwe
en FBGs is used as variable attenuator to equalize the output power fo
r each lasing wavelength. By using passive multi-ring cavities (MRC) m
ethod, single- or dual-wavelength laser of equal output power is demon
strated for a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 63 dB and a narrow linewi
dth of 3 kHz. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
