The synthesis of new chloro-benzylidene substituted derivatives of hyd
antoin and their antimicrobial activity is reported. The structure-act
ivity relationships showed that the antibacterial effect of investigat
ed compounds depends on the distance of the phenyl ring from the amine
residue and the kind of substitutes on the phenyl ring. In the invest
igated group of derivatives, ylidene)-2-(4-fluorobenzylamine)-imidazol
ine-4-one and ylidene)-2-(2-phenyl-ethylamine)-imidazoline-4-one showe
d the best antibacterial activity against Moraxella catarrhalis.
