Te. Stephan et al., ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF THE SEMISYNTHETIC COMPOUND, HEXAHYDROCOLUPULONE, Journal of antimicrobial chemotherapy, 42(4), 1998, pp. 519-522
In this study we demonstrate that hexahydrocolupulone (HHC) more effec
tively inhibits the growth in vitro of Gram-positive organisms than My
cobacterium tuberculosis or Escherichia coli. Vancomycin-resistant Ent
erococcus faecium, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and co
agulase-negative staphylococci were inhibited by HHC at concentrations
less than or equal to 4.06 mg/L. Growth inhibition profiles varied ac
cording to the microorganism evaluated (static for S. aureus and bacte
ricidal for Bacillus subtilis).
