Abstract
The chemical picture of plasma is used for analysis and calculations o f the equation of state of shock compressed metals. Coulomb interactio n, short-range repulsion, free electron degeneracy and multi-stage ion ization are taken into account. Contributions of all plasma effects ar e studied. The procedure for the determination of the parameters of sh ort-range atomic and ionic repulsion is discussed. The calculated equa tion of state is compared with experimental data.
