Ri. Zaitseva et al., INFLUENCE OF CAPILLARY-SORPTIVE AND OSMOTIC MOISTURE PRESSURE IN CHERNOZEM ON THE GROWTH AND GUTTATION OF BARLEY, Eurasian soil science, 31(10), 1998, pp. 1075-1082
In an experiment with a single independent variable, a separate influe
nce of capillary-sorptive (P-cs) and osmotic moisture pressure (P-o) o
n growth and guttation of barley was studied with the aim of examining
the availability of soil moisture for plants in a wide range of salin
ization (0.2-50 g/l NaCl and 0.2-66 g/l Na2SO4) and moistening (P-cs 0
...-24 atm). The study was carried out on samples of chernozem moisten
ed with salt solutions (NaCl and Na2SO4) to the values of field water
capacity. It is shown that the dependence between the relative growth
and guttation of barley and the osmotic pressure is close to the linea
r one: the equations derived are in agreement with modern concepts of
water movement in the soil-plant system.
