B. Behera et al., ROLE OF CATALYST TO IMPROVE P-10 FILLED GAS COUNTER PERFORMANCE, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 416(1), 1998, pp. 81-84
wThe long-term performance of a Delta E gas counter filled with P-10 g
as at a pressure of 130 Torr, and operated in the proportional mode, i
s monitored. The presence of iron-oxide based catalysts within the cou
nter volume successfully removes electronegative impurities from outga
ssing and initial contaminants. It has been possible to operate this c
ounter continuously for more than three months, with good resolution (
9-10%). The initial slow decrease of peak channel with time has been a
ttributed to the dynamic increase of electronegative impurities. It ha
s been concluded that the long-term performance of a gas counter depen
ds substantially on the concentration of the catalysts. (C) 1998 Elsev
