Abstract
In this paper the postbuckling behaviour of simply-supported bars with uniform, open thin-walled cross-sections subjected to a centrally app lied compressive load is examined. The analysis refers to sections for which the centroid does not coincide with the shear center. Hence the bars lose their stability through simultaneous bending and torsion. T he proposed method is applied to the specific case of an equal leg ang le for which numerical results for the critical (elastic) load are ava ilable. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
