Sm. Wasim et al., URBACH-MARTIENSSEN TAIL IN THE ABSORPTION-SPECTRA OF THE ORDERED VACANCY COMPOUND CUIN3SE5, Journal of applied physics, 84(10), 1998, pp. 5823-5825
The presence of Urbach-Martienssen's tail in the absorption coefficien
t spectra just below the fundamental absorption edge is observed in se
veral samples of the ordered vacancy compound CuIn3Se5 at different te
mperatures below 300 K. An empirical relation that takes into account
the effect of structural disorder and modification in the contribution
of the thermal term, caused due to the deviation from the ideal stoic
hiometry 1:3:5, is proposed to explain the change of Urbach's energy K
T/sigma with temperature. The phonon energy involved in the electron-p
honon interaction, in the absence of structural disorder, is estimated
to be around 23 meV. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-8
