Abstract
Nonlinear optical chromophores with furan units incorporated in the co njugated system were synthesized. Their second-order nonlinear respons e was determined by electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation (EFISHG) measurements; Off-resonant values mu beta(0) as high as 431.1 0(-48) esu were obtained. The D pi A (donor-accepted conjugated) syste ms were incorporated as side chain into MMA-chromophore functionalised methacrylate copolymers in various concentrations. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
