This paper presents the experimental results of a bibliometric analysi s of the documentary flow reflected by Science Citation Index on the p roblems of optical science. The ''core'' zone of journals is determine d. A cluster analysis of the bibliographic citations is carried out. T he development rates of various areas of optics are analyzed on the ba sis of the literature available in the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the fundamental specializations of optical science.
