Abstract
OBJECTIVE. Our objective was to assess the technical feasibility, safe ty, and accuracy of sonographically guided fine-needle aspiration biop sy of superior mediastinal masses by the suprasternal route. CONCLUSIO N. Sonographically guided biopsy through the suprasternal route is saf e and effective for lesions in the pretracheal, right paratracheal, an d prevascular compartments of the superior mediastinum. This procedure is especially useful for lesions with an acoustic window too small fo r parasternal biopsy under sonographic guidance.
