M. Trunk et al., INVESTIGATION OF A PHASE-TRANSITION IN A SINGLE OPTICALLY LEVITATED MICRODROPLET BY RAMAN-MIE SCATTERING, Applied optics, 36(15), 1997, pp. 3305-3309
Light-scattering measurements of optically levitated microdroplets con
taining three components, glycerin, water, and ammonium sulfate, are p
resented. Evaporation of the microdroplet is studied by means of morph
ology-dependent resonances observed in both Raman spectra as well as e
lastically scattered light and by the simultaneous measurement of the
laser power. The phase transition from the liquid to the solid state o
f ammonium sulfate inside the microdroplet is observed by means of mor
phology-dependent resonances and Raman scattering. (C) 1997 Optical So
