M. Nowakowska et al., A NOVEL ANTENNA CYCLODEXTRIN - SYNTHESIS AND PHOTOSENSITIZED REACTIONOF AN INCLUDED GUEST, Journal of the American Chemical Society, 119(19), 1997, pp. 4364-4368
A novel water-soluble photochemical microreactor has been prepared. A
perbutylated cyclodextrin bearing seven naphthalenesulfonate antenna c
hromophores (Bu-CD-N-7) displays improved solubilization of hydrophobi
c guests in comparison with the unbutylated material (CD-N-7). The pho
tophysical properties of Bu-CD-N-7 are similar to those of the CD-N-7.
The naphthyl chromophores of Bu-CD-N-7 were used to sensitize the pho
tolysis of 9-anthrylmethyl pivalate (AP). Inclusion of AP in the cyclo
dextrin leads to the selective formation of one of the two possible co
upling products.
