Hydrothermal syntheses and single-crystal structures of three zeolite
rho analogs with novel framework compositions are presented. The incor
poration of divalent metal atoms (Co2+, Mn2+ and Mg2+) into the framew
ork metal-atom sites is directly and unambiguously established from si
ngle-crystal diffraction data. MnAP-RHO1 and MAP-RHO1 have the highest
Mn2+ or Mg2+ substitution levels in aluminophosphate-based structures
, respectively. These analogs are prepared using the amine-templated s
ynthesis approach, and the organic amine uniquely templates the format
ion of the zeolite rho topology. The amine molecule is not located at
the center of the large alpha-cage, but is instead positioned at the c
enter of each double eight-ring. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All ri
