The purpose of this work is the production of (Fe-Ni-C) alloys by sint
ering of powder mixtures containing these three elements. The study of
carburization and/or decarburization phenomena occuring during the si
ntering of these mixtures under various atmospheres (argon, hydrogen a
nd H-2 + 0.5%CH4) was followed by infrared spectroscopy and measuremen
ts of the residual carbon after heat treatment. The structural behavio
ur of the Fe-20Ni-0.8C alloys was also studied, especially by dilatome
try.
