Abstract
Activated energy states of interstitial atoms in alpha-Ti crystals are investigated. Previous precision experiments on the anisotropy of the diffusion coefficients D-zz /D-xx in this system revealed that d(D-zz /D-xx)/dT has different signs for oxygen and carbon. It is shown that the anomalous positive sign of the effect for carbon atoms is due to t he presence of a double-well potential for a diffusing atom at the sad dle points.
