WT1 - MORE THAN A TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR

The Wilms tumor-suppressor gene WT1 was originally identified through its involvement in the development of a pediatric kidney tumor. Recent genetic data show that mutations in the WT1 gene cause a variety of o ther diseases, and new biochemical evidence suggests that the WT1 prot ein is not only a transcription factor but might also act at the post- transcriptional level.
