F. Autuly et al., COMPARISON OF BURKHOLDERIA-CEPACIA STRAINS RECOVERED FROM CYSTIC-FIBROSIS PATIENTS TREATED IN THE SAME CF CENTER, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 28(8-9), 1998, pp. 608-611
Burkholderia (Pseudomonas) cepacia was recovered from sputum of 4 pati
ents with cystic fibrosis, by using selective media. These patients we
re all treated in the same CF Center at the Rennes Regional University
Hospital, in 1993. A person-to-person transmission was suspected, and
ribotyping of isolates was performed. These strains were compared to
each other and to 9 strains from 2 other CF centers. 11 ribotypes were
found. The ribotypes of the 4 strains from Rennes were all different.
The results indicated that cross-infection did not occur between pati
ents treated in the same center.
