Acute purulent pericarditis caused by Haemophilus influenzae is unusua
l especially in children. In recorded cases, respiratory symptoms are
present and children under 4 years of age are most often affected. The
authors report a case of pericarditis caused by H. influenzae in an 8
month-old child, associated with meningitis. Early recognition and ra
pid diagnosis associated with aggressive medical and surgical therapy
were successful.
