New macrocyclic lanthanide(III) complexes were obtained with two oxaaz
adiamine macrocycles derived from 2,6-diformylpyridine: (i) mononuclea
r complexes of an 18-membered sexidentate N3O3 macrocycle (L-1) derive
d from 1,5-bis(2-aminophenoxy)-3-oxapentane; (ii) mononuclear complexe
s of a 16-membered pentadentate N3O2 macrocycle (L-2) derived from 1,3
-bis(2-aminophenoxy)propane. The complexes were characterized by eleme
ntal analysis, molar conductivity, mass spectrometry, IR and H-1 NMR s
pectroscopy, thermogravimetry and magnetic measurements. The crystal s
tructures of the L2 macrocycle and the corresponding diprotonated liga
