Abstract
Worldwide usage of platinum group metals is increasing, prompting new recovery technologies. Resting cells of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans re duced soluble Pd2+ to elemental, cell-bound Pd-0 supported by pyruvate , formate, or H-2 as the electron donor without biochemical cofactors. Pd reduction was O-2 insensitive, opening the way for recycling and r ecovery of Pd under oxic conditions.
