Abstract
We describe the spectroscopic properties associated with the occurrenc e of a 270 nm band giving rise to a blue luminescence at 432 nm and it s dependence on the chemical composition in doped silica glasses. The luminescence lifetime is found at around 75 mu s. The associated defec t is related to Ge doping. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights r eserved.
