Colors of gold ruby glasses are variable, depending in parr on the siz
es of the gold particles dispersed in the colloidal state throughout t
he silicate glass. Gold has been incorporated into analogous low-melti
ng acetate liquids and glasses. The resulting colors imparted to lead-
lithium acetate glasses and sodium-potassium-calcium acetate glasses v
ary from pink to purple, as the colloidal dispersion is affected by th
e structure of the acetate system. The structural dependence of the co
lor of gold in these acetate systems is unlike that for the dependence
of the color of Co2+ in the same acetates. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science
