B. Tischendorf et al., THE DENSITY OF ALKALI SILICATE-GLASSES OVER WIDE COMPOSITIONAL RANGES, Journal of non-crystalline solids, 239(1-3), 1998, pp. 197-202
The densities of alkali silicate glasses are reported. The composition
was varied over an exceptionally wide range of values from J = 0.0-2.
2 (0-69 mol.% alkali oxide), where J is the molar ratio of alkali oxid
e to silica. These new results, along with previously reported literat
ure data are used in a unified density model based on the short range
order determined from nuclear magnetic resonance and Raman spectroscop
ies. Volumes and packing fractions of the structural units were obtain
