Dn. Rachkovskii, DIFFUSE REFLECTION AND TRANSMISSION OF LIGHT BY A MEDIUM WITH AN ARBITRARY SCATTERING INDICATRIX, Astronomy reports, 42(5), 1998, pp. 688-693
The diffuse reflection and transmission of light in a finite atmospher
e and reflection in a semi-infinite plane-parallel atmosphere is consi
dered for both conservative and nonconservative scattering. The scatte
ring indicatrix is expanded in Legendre polynomials and averaged in az
imuth, and has N + 1 terms. General Sobolev theory is used to derive l
inear algebraic equations determining the auxiliary polynomials q(i)(m
u) and s(i)(mu). As shown by Sobolev, the solution of the problem at h
and can be reduced to the derivation of these polynomials.
