Abstract
Nanowires of lead between macroscopic electrodes are produced by means of a scanning tunneling microscope. Magnetic fields may destroy the s uperconductivity in the electrodes, while the wire remains in the supe rconducting state. The properties of the resulting microscopic Josephs on junctions are investigated. [S0163-1829(98)03941-1].
