Abstract
This article argues that significant reform is needed in Canadian facu lties of education to address adequately social justice on issues of e thnicity, culture, and racism. Teacher education programs can model an d provide equitable educational opportunities for preservice teachers and promote equity for all students in public schools. Addressing mult icultural education and antiracist education specifically, the article provides an overview of current issues and debates in this field. Att ending to equity and pluralism in teacher education involves overcomin g several challenges; a sampling of some exemplary programs and promis ing developments in this area provides some specific directions for fu rther meaningful reforms.
