A new method for the synthesis of cordierite at low temperatures based
on the mechanical activation of mixtures containing magnesium, alumin
um, and silicon hydroxides or natural aluminosilicates (kaolinite, tal
c, and hydrargillite) followed by treatment at 1260 degrees C was prop
osed. The monolith honeycomb catalysts with supported iron oxide exhib
iting high activity in the oxidation of butane and carbon monooxide we
re prepared.
