Y. Dror, REDUCING TOTALITY AND OPENING RESIDENTIAL SETTINGS TO THEIR REGIONS IN THE ISRAELI KIBBUTZ ARTZI EDUCATIONAL-INSTITUTIONS IN THE 1980S AND 1990S, Journal of adolescence (London, Print), 21(5), 1998, pp. 529-541
The origins, history and functions of Israeli Kibbutz institutions are
described, with a focus on the Kibbutz Artzi, a left wing Zionist org
anization which set up junior and senior residential high schools. Rec
ent developments have led to reducing the ''total'' nature of these in
stitutions. Day pupils have been admitted and the boarding aspect clos
ed, with the facilities opened up re, youth groups studying in the sch
ools. Deprived and ethnic minority children are among youth groups enc
ouraged to make use of the institutions' programmes. The detailed reas
ons for, and implications of, changes are clarified in studies of two
educational kibbutzim. (C) 1998 The Association for Professionals in S
