PREVENTION AND THE CLINICAL ENCOUNTER

Development of an intervention to prevent depression in children of pa rents with severe affective disorder is described, along with the risk and resilience factors incorporated from prospective longitudinal stu dies of parents and children at risk. Strategies helpful in bridging t he gap between clinical practice and prevention are discussed, and the differences in orientation necessary to include prevention in clinica l practice are explored.
