Antisense aligonucleotides can down-regulate or specifically turn off
individual genes and have therefore received much attention in the era
of gene therapy. while effective in vitro, delivery in vivo has been
problematic. This review focusses on the progress of polymeric, non-vi
ral methods of antisense delivery and also describes some of the excit
ing potential clinical applications of this technology. (C) 1998 John
