P. Mueller et al., RHODIUM(II)-CATALYZED NITRENE TRANSFER WITH PHENYLIODONIUM YLIDES, Journal of physical organic chemistry, 11(8-9), 1998, pp. 597-601
The [Rh-2(OAc)(4)]-catalyzed decomposition of NsN=IPh {[N-(p-nitrobenz
enesulfonyl)imino]phenyliodinane} affords aziridines in the presence o
f olefins and insertion products with compounds having activated CH bo
nds. The aziridination is stereospecific, and the insertion proceeds w
ith retention of configuration. With chiral Rh(II) complexes, enantioe
nriched products result. A one-step mechanism involving a metal-comple
xed nitrene is proposed for both reactions. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons
