J. Argyris et al., AXES OF MESHING AND THEIR APPLICATION IN THEORY OF GEARING, Computer methods in applied mechanics and engineering, 163(1-4), 1998, pp. 293-310
The authors propose a concept of axes of meshing for a gear drive with
crossed axes of rotation. The axes of meshing represent a couple of c
rossed straight lines L-(I) and L-(II) that satisfy the following requ
irements: (a) rotation about L-(I) and L-(II) provide the given relati
ve screw motion; (b) the common normal to contacting surfaces intersec
ts axes of meshing. Particular cases of axes of meshing are considered
. Interpretation by Pluecker's linear complex of the necessary conditi
on of existence of envelope to family of surfaces is discussed. (C) 19
