Ym. Panchenko et Pv. Strekalov, MARINE CORROSION TESTS OF ELECTROPLATES FOR SHIP INSTRUMENTS - VI - PROTECTIVE AND DECORATIVE PROPERTIES AND SERVICE LIFE OF CHROME-PLATED STEEL, Protection of metals, 34(5), 1998, pp. 485-495
The protective and decorative properties of chromium electroplates on
steel 10-matte (24 and 36 mu m thick), hard (common, 48 and 60 mu m an
d phosphated, 9 and 18 mu m, including those treated with a hydrophobi
zing liquid) - were tested in containers, which simulate the instrumen
tal cases of water-tight and splash-proof types. Outdoor tests were ca
rried out for 14-20 years on the sea-coast in three zones with cold (M
urmansk), temperate humid (Vladivostok), and warm humid (Batumi) clima
tic conditions. Protective properties of the electroplates were assess
ed visually in relative classes and by weighing; their appearance was
estimated visually in relative classes. The service life of electropla
tes in ship instruments was specified.
