D. Denegri et al., DETERMINING THE PARAMETERS OF THE MINIMAL SUPERGRAVITY MODEL FROM 2L-T(MISS)+(JETS) FINAL-STATES AT CERN LHC - ART. NO. 095010(E), Physical review. D. Particles and fields, 5809(9), 1998, pp. 5010
We analyze the events with two same-flavor, opposite-sign leptons+ E-T
(miss)+(jets) as expected in pp collisions at the CERN LHC within the
framework of the minimal supergravity model. The objective is the dete
rmination of the parameters m(0) and m(1/2) of this model (for a given
value of tan beta). The signature l(+)l(-) + E-T(miss)+(jets) selects
the leptonic decays <(chi)over tilde>(0)(2)--><(chi)over tilde>(0)(1)
l(+)l(-), <(chi)over tilde>(0)(2)-->l(-/+)--><(chi)over tilde>(0)(1)l(
+)l(-) of <(chi)over tilde>(0)(2) produced in (g) over tilde/(q) over
tilde decays. We exploit the fact that the invariant dilepton mass dis
tribution has a pronounced structure with a sharp edge at the kinemati
cal end point even in such an inclusive final state over a significant
part of parameter space. We determine the domain of parameter space w
here the edge is expected to be visible. We show that a measurement of
this edge already constrains the model parameters essentially to thre
e lines in the (m(0),m(1/2)) parameter plane. We work out a strategy t
o discriminate between the three-body leptonic decays of <(chi)over ti
lde>(0)(2) and the decays into sleptons (l) over tilde(L,R). This proc
edure may make it possible to get information on SUSY particle masses
already with low luminosity, L-int = 10(3) pb(-1). [S0556-2821(98)0892
