N. Bouche et al., DYNAMICS OF GAIN IN VERTICAL-CAVITY LASERS AND AMPLIFIERS AT 1.53 MU-M USING FEMTOSECOND PHOTOEXCITATION, Applied physics letters, 73(19), 1998, pp. 2718-2720
Conditions for the optimization of short pulse amplification and gatin
g times in vertical cavity laser amplifiers are elucidated using femto
second photoexcitation. The experimental results pertaining to the tem
poral response are analyzed by a theoretical model taking into account
the carrier heating and the Fabry-Perot nature of the cavity. A 20 dB
amplification gain is obtained in a vertical cavity structure at 1.53
mm with a capacity to function at a rate >25 Gb/s. (C) 1998 American
