Abstract
The magnetic moment, induced by a field of unit strength, is discussed as the fundamental classification characteristic of an object reveale d by its magnetic field. It is shown that this parameter, although it also has the dimensions of volume, is determined by the cube of the ch aracteristic dimension of the the magnetized object rather than by the volume.
