An automatic system is described for spectral diagnostics of steady-st
ate are plasma, which consists of a diffraction spectrometer, photodio
de arrays, and PC/AT computer. Results are presented of simultaneous h
igh-accuracy determination of the electron temperature and number dens
ity in a stabilized high-current argon are in a diverging-channel plas
ma generator. The system provides an accuracy of measurements up to 3-
5%. Stark-broadening constants were obtained from the measurements for
several ArI and ArII lines in the visible, UV, and IR spectral region
