Abstract
The Milne-Thomson circle theorem is extended to give a simple general expression for the image system in an elliptical cylinder introduced i nto an otherwise specified unbounded potential flow which contains no singularities in the region to be occupied by the ellipse. This image system is used to obtain an expression for the corresponding source-si nk surface singularity distribution on the ellipse, thus providing new benchmark test cases for source-sink solutions as obtained numericall y by a panel method. Several typical examples are given to illustrate the general theoretical approach.
