Abstract
A synecological approach was used to study the microbial population of masonry surfaces. Complex algobacterial associations were shown to fo rm on these surfaces in the foci of abundant growth of algae and cyano bacteria. The taxonomic structure of these associations and their seas onal dynamics are described. The formation of the microbial associatio ns is compared with that occurring on the exposures of mountain rocks where weathering occurs.
