Abstract
The permanent oil discharges from the refinery of Bizerta influence di fferently the meiobenthic densities of the littoral. Stations located far from the polluant sources are used as reference zones. The densiti es which, in such zones, vary from 387 to 1336 ind. 10 cm(-2) decrease at polluted stations (17 to 203 ind. 10 cm-2). From the comparison of the mean numbers of nematodes obtained in the studied sector and seve ral correlation calculations, it appears that the nematofauna is more resistant than the other meiofaunic groups, but is nevertheless quanti tatively affected by a chronic oil pollution.
