Abstract
The pressure dependency of nearly equimolar deuterium-tritium mixtures also in the presence of the inert diluent helium on the signal of a s mall 4.6 cm(3) volume ionization chamber was investigated experimental ly and some of the results compared with theoretical calculations. The ion recombination factor that best fits the results was found to be 5 .9 x 10(-6) cm(3) ions(-1) s(-1), a value higher than previously repor ted in the literature. The performed modeling is considered to be of g eneral value for the design optimization of ionization chambers. (C) 1 998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
