A model of electrically active and neutral native point defects in SnO
2 is developed. Thermodynamic analysis of the equilibrium of the nativ
e point defects makes it possible to construct the phase diagram P-o2
- T-x of lead dioxide. The contradiction between n-type monopolar cond
uctivity and the two-sided homogeneity region of the SnO2 phase is res
olved. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7826(98)00210-5]
