In this study the interfacial bond strength of sisal fibre-concrete co
mposite was determined using two methods. In one of these methods, a n
egative value of -0.43 N/mm(2) was obtained. This method was ruled out
because it is not possible to have a negative value for the interfaci
al bond strength. The second method produced a value of 0.028 N/mm(2)
and was accepted as a reasonable way of determining an approximate val
ue for the interfacial bond strength between sisal, fibre and concrete
. This was because the value obtained appeared reasonable when compare
d with other bond strength values for other cement composites. Therefo
re this second method was recommended for the determination of the int
erfacial bond strength for other cement composites with fibres of simi
lar characteristics as those of sisal fibres.
