A section of Cenomanian-Santonian deposits in the Transaltai Gobi (sou
thwestern Mongolia) is described and analyzed. In lithological feature
s and composition of ostracode, mollusk, and charophyte assemblages th
ese deposits are correlative with the Bain-Shire Formation of the Khar
a-Chutul reference section in the eastern Gobi. The studied counterpar
t of the Bain-Shire Formation is very complete and can be considered a
s a reference section for the western Transaltai Gobi.
