Bd. Summ et al., THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE REHBINDER CONCEPTS OF THE WETTING HYSTERESIS, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 60(5), 1998, pp. 598-605
Experimental data obtained by using new methods for studying the hyste
resis phenomena at wetting are reported as the development of Rehbinde
r's concepts of wetting hysteresis. It was shown that the surfactant c
oncentration near the wetting line, nonuniform surfactant distribution
on the wetted surface, viscosity of displaced liquid, and its adhesio
n to substrate at displacement welting together with factors known ear
lier strongly affect the contact angle hysteresis. It is the measureme
nts of advancing and receding angles, i.e., the contact angle hysteres
is, which makes it possible to receive the complete information on the
regular trends in wetting and physicochemical processes occurring at
the interfaces and near the wetting line.
