Ed. Shchukin, ON SOME TRENDS IN THE STUDY IN THE FIELD OF PHYSICOCHEMICAL MECHANICSIN THE WORKS BY REHBINDER AND HIS SCHOOL, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 60(5), 1998, pp. 655-662
The studies of some major fields of physicochemical mechanics initiate
d by Rehbinder and developed by his successors are briefly reviewed on
the occasion of the centennial anniversary of Academician P.A. Rehbin
der and the 70 years that have passed from the time of the discovery o
f the Rehbinder effect. Among the fields reviewed are: the study of br
ittleness under the effect of liquid metals with the aid of a new meth
od of electrochemical microscratching of a surface; the discovery of t
he mutual influence of a solid phase and a medium and the acceleration
of sintering of powder materials in the heterogeneous catalysis proce
sses; direct experimental inspection of sintering of newly formed micr
ocrystals and the emergence of residual stresses during the hydration
hardening of mineral binders; and the data on the key role of lyophili
c structural mechanical barrier formed by the interfacial adsorption l
ayers as a factor of strong stabilization of disperse systems.
