Abstract
On September 1, Malaysia imposed currency controls. About the same tim e, the Malaysian prime minister sacked his deputy. The international c ommunity did not seem to like either of the actions. Their likes and d islikes apart, the key issues are whether the economy cart be stimulat ed to recover; whether reform of the financial sector will go ahead de spite the currency controls and whether the controls will stay too lon g.
