Abstract
Synthesis of 17 beta-isoxazolyl steroids and their transformations int o the corresponding spiro[steroid17,2'-furanone]s are described. The r eaction sequence consists of the, 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of a nitri le oxide to mestrenol, dehydration, epoxidation or dihydroxylation, cl eavage of the isoxazole moiety and cyclization of intermediate enamino ketones.
