We present the study of iron and silver granular films formed by impla
ntation of 40 Ke V Fe+ and 30 KeVAg+ ions in viscous and solid state s
ilicone polymers at different doses. The structural, magnetic and opti
cal properties of synthesized metal films were investigated by TEM, ma
gnetic resonance and absorption UV-VIS spectroscopy methods. The TEM m
icrographs of the iron films showed that the process of metal film gro
wth in a polymer volume, the film morphology and the structure depend
on the relaxation state of the silicone target. The dose dependencies
of magnetic (effective magnetization) and optical (plasma resonance pe
ak positions) parameters of the iron and silver films synthesized both
in viscous and in solid polymer matrices are presented. The comparati
ve analysis of the above dependencies showed that the method of ion sy
nthesis of metal films in viscous silicone media provides a higher deg
ree of coagulation of implanted ions in metal phase than that in solid
state polymer. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
